The latest research from energy giant E.ON shows that the average home can save up to £390 a year on its energy bills with proper insulation, however Collin Muller of Muller Property Shop in Alsager says that the cost of ignoring insulation could be even higher for those who are selling up. As money-conscious buyers compare various properties on the market, Muller warns that a poor energy rating could become a deal-breaker.
He comments: “With fuel prices on the up and up, many people overlook the fact that an attractive energy performance certificate can make all the difference when trying to sell your home. In such a fickle buyers market, reducing energy bills is not only a good idea to save you money, but from our experience in the area, it can really encourage buyers to sign on the dotted line.”

He continues: “17 per cent of respondents commented that they can't afford to insulate their homes. However, there are a range of government grants available which many people are just not aware of that can save you between 50-100% on the cost of insulation. Installing green energy systems has also been greatly subsidised and this is another great long-term investment when it comes to making your property more saleable.”
